Exquisite Corpse is a Surrealist collaborative drawing or writing game invented by Surrealist artists. The goal is to create a surprising and often strange image or story by having multiple people contribute without seeing the full contribution of others- resulting in a piece full of unexpected combinations. I have given students variations of projects inspired by this artistic process. I have done the 3 section folded collaborative exquisite with my classes and also independent projects where heads, torsos, and legs are swapped out. I have also had students create symbolic monsters based on personal prompts for the head torso and legs for a more meaningful approach. You can see this in the Watercolor Monsters. Its a great project because students can truly let their imaginations run wild. No work ever comes out the same!
